First attempts ever at imaging from a beginner

My Thousand Oaks 108 Glass +2 arrived today, as well as my Neximage 5. Unfortunately I was not able to use my Windows portable as that was unavailable. In desperation, I just held my phone to the eyepiece. Still, happy with what I got for a very first try. I'm also strangely content that my observation of the spots matched up with user David Smith's photos from today. This means: 1. I am not doing it horribly wrong, and 2. My interpretation of what I was seeing is at least partly correct.

Regardless, I'm a long time lurker, first time poster, and thanks to all retroactively for all the help and advice I've gotten from the forum users these last 5 months.

Nice images for a first try with a phone, are they stills or stacked movies?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

They are stills as far as my involvement in the process, but the Nexus 5 has "HDR+" mode which I believe takes a burst of images and then stacks for best lighting, detail etc. It's functionally the same as taking one photo, however.

Nice first shot and what a great photo from a phone. As Alexandra says you will be hooked now. I had tried night time for a couple of years before trying solar and never realised how much our sun changes from day to day and how absorbing it can be. I still do both, but if time/money only allowed one it would be solar. Keep looking and photographing the sun.

Thanks Robin,

While budgets and time make fools of us all, let's hope we don't have to choose.
