Heh - know what you mean. Have been on a couple of family holidays to various bits of Cardigan Bay and ended up coming back cross country one night - absolutely pitch black. No scope that trip but we all spent a little while staring up at a stunning sky.

Don't think I can get away with a family trip to the better central locations but southern Lleyn Peninsula is on the cards and also very dark with nothing but waves to the South for 100 miles...

....I've not felt right for a while now I think it can be calmed but at the moment I feel sick.Dark sky fever has a hold on me big style.Mid-wales just don't do it kids!! ;)

There's a nice dark site about an hr from my place although we may fall out over the laptop screen :D

I've been the same since I got back from the Brecons in August.

I'm mentioned to the other half I want to move out there but her parents rely on her too much as they are both registered disabled, so all the time they are around I will be staying in Surrey.

Poorly, I have to say it did look a lovely area, I have looked at the photos a good few times. It is silly really for a person that has travelled as much as me and I have never seen many of the lovely areas that are fairly close by way of comparison.

Must try to make an effort to get to one of the meets and bring some clear sky with me.

Alan.

Can't beat West Wales and the Brecon Nat Park.

Not acquainted with the area though it is famous. But I'm off to Rannoch next week and, full moon aside, I have high hopes of seeing the darkest skies I've been in for a good while - but more importantly, the first time EVER in properly dark skies with a scope!

Lynn peninsula is very dark James but this spot near Elan was just daft! Not a single light for miles and miles swampthing said can't see any buildings for greenery instead of being the other way round!

Are you referring to the Elan Valley area near Claerwen Resevoir ?

I love going to Kielder. The worst part is getting home again, looking at the orange sky and thinking 'what's the point?'.

What's more sickening is I moved from a village with almost no light pollution and took it for granted.

about 10 miles south of that

I scoped Claerwen out on Google Earth awhile back. Although quite remote, with a lack of facilities, there looks to be some good Observing spots above the parking lot by the Dam.

Edit: Must plan an observing safari there in the near future.

Makes me sad now I back at home and look up. Where are the billowing clouds of the Milky Way? I can barely see anything of it now, let alone it shining through the cloud as it was in Elan

Alan any plans on making a 18" with the same design as your 14"?
