Best software for Mac? Beginner.

Recommended Posts

Free native apps:

PHD2 for guiding.

Stellarium is a good free star map.

OAcapture is good for solar system imaging.

GIMP for processing - currently limited to 8 bit though.

Paid native apps:

Pixinsight (processing)

Photoshop (processing)

Free apps usable in wine:

Registax (processing)

Pipp (processing)

Autostakkert (processing)

Deep sky stacker (processing) kinda works too but is tricky to get to work and has glitches.

As mentioned already VMware is great for running windows on a Mac, I use it so I can use Astrotortilla. I would suggest XP if you go down this route as it isn't so resource hungry and astro software tends to work well on it.
