Being the "Blue Snowball " , it does stick out by it's stunning blue colour and non stellar appearance. Visible in the fov from x50 up wards. Will blink at you if you directly at it and away again. A lovely planetary nebula and worth getting a most useful UHC filter if you would like enhanced views of M27, M57 and other nebulae,

Nick.

I got this the other night, having not seen it for a few years. It was smaller than I remember and didn't look particularly blue! Probably the conditions. Need to get the 12" on it.

Through the scope it is definitely non stellar, looks like a round ball, or snowball ;-)

It is smaller than the ring.

M57 is listed as 1.4 x 1.1 arc minutes, the blue snowball as 0.5 x 0.5

They are hard to identify in a view finder, both need magnification to be clearly non stellar

There is a bit more to this one than meets the eye. At first glance it looks like a featureless blue ball. Crank up the magnification and have a bit of a mess about with filters and there is a surprising amount of detail. Granted, it is never going to give M42 a run for its money.

Yes, I was looking last night and there was definitely some structure to it.

Totally new on me this nebula, fantastic as I recently got a decent filter too.  Can't wait to get on this one.   In a month or so that going to be in a great position at a nice time of the evening.

Thanks again to the good people on here for another enlightening thread.
