It's just not fair

Have been looking forward to getting some observing time in all week. Today been quite sunny with a bit of cloud but tonight wall to wall cloud.

What makes it even worse is the first time in ages all my neighbours have their lights out all evening and my garden is as dark as I have ever seen it.

I used to moth trap almost every night and the best conditions are warm, muggy and cloudy. Often I bemoaned the days where it was overcast and cleared just as dusk advanced!

I think sometimes we remember or notice the bad points. I prefer to say that I have been out around 150 timed this year including solar rather than remember the bad nights.

That said we bits love moaning about the weather.

Today looks good. But it will be too windy ;0)

FWIW, it was grotty here yesterday but cracking tonight. Very dry sky so very little LP, even though I am on the edge of Stoke. All 5 main stars of the little dipper visible with a few others besides. Milky way clearly visible down to about 30 degrees.

Thought I would have a go at the Pinwheel Nebula but no joy there - just a bit too much clag lower down - so I stopped off at the Great Cluster in Hercules on the way to a tour of Lyra and Cygnus, including the dumbell Nebula - a first for me.

Looking after the kids tomorrow so packed up fairly early but a great couple of hours.

I had a crystal clear night last week. LP was still there but it was a nice crisp clear night without usual haze. Problem was I had been out and the wife had to get up early so no chance of setting up. The nights I did get out that were supposed to be clear the sky was a full of murk and thin cloud. Never is fair.

We have had one more decent night since but that's it. Last night was OK but it had been raining all day and everything was sodden so no thanks!

As for hobbies so dependent on weather: kite flying, at least with kites my daughter can fly (less than 5mph and they wont fly, more than 10 and they will come apart) and sunbathing :).
