Did anyone else see this?

Recommended Posts

Around 20.20 this evening I saw a group of brightish objects mowing together from west to east. There were 12/15 or more points of light in the group moving at about the speed of a low satellite. I've been caught out by geese lit from bellow before but this was nothing like that - definitely stellar like points of light in an irregular group. A satellite breaking up perhaps?

We saw something similar to this at Kelling a few years ago and it turned out to be Chinese Lanterns.

With wind currents etc.. though and from a reasonable distance, these did appear to move in a group and be smallish points of light - it was very odd until we twigged what it was....

Just a thought :)

Thanks for the comments. I would say that they were definitely not Chinese lanterns. It was a compact group of around a degree and moving steadily and fairly quickly together. I have seen something similar before but then the objects left trails and I assumed it was definitely a satellite or meteorite breaking up and entering the atmosphere. Last night there were no trails and the objects were more numerous.

I suppose it could have been aircraft but I didn't think so at the time. We all see lots of aircraft obviously and the usual giveaway is some flashing lights which may be coloured. What I saw was all white light of various magnitudes. It was also a very 'tight' formation but not regular. We'll never know......
