Captured video of something odd in the sky

Hi all!

I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what it is we saw in the sky two days ago? I captured a  bit of video of it but unfortunately it didn't turn out very clear.

We were driving past the bay beach in Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York at around 5 pm on 9/17/2014. We saw a strange, fiery streak in the sky. Pulled over and I got out and caught the attached video. Then my daughter got out to get the binoculars from the trunk. By the time she had found them the streak disappeared. Even with the binoculars we couldn't find anything to explain what could have created this streak.

Any ideas?

Your link is a dud. However it was on the news that an old Soviet spy-satellite just burned-up in the atmosphere, putting on quite a good show, out west somewhere. Maybe you saw another chunk of it. Try google.

Nothing "astronomical" , merely a short aircraft contrail lit up by the setting Sun ...
