Hi everyone, I am a new member from Wakefield. I have just joined the my local Astronomical group who have a section on here. I currently don't own a scope but have had a life long interest in Astronomy. I am currently looking into buying my first Dobsonian Telescope.

Welcome.

I have little advice except to say that you simply must make it fun. A wealth of knowledge and advice on tap here - enough advice to empty your wallet, fry your head and burst your brain. And nice people sharing their enthusiasm with you.

Welcome to SGL Ryan and hopefully I'll bump into you at the next meeting of WADAS or one of our observing sessions.

There are plenty of us at the society with visual scope's so best to have a look when we're out next time and see for yourself what each scope

Hi and welcome to sgl. A dobsonian is a fantastic choice. The 250px is really good for the money and will last you a lifetime. Just make sure you get something you will use regularly, dobs are perfect for this as they require very little setup. Quick check of collimation every now and then and you are sorted. No power required!

Hi Ryan :) Welcome to the Lounge ;)

+1 for,checking out your local Astro Club, before you buy anything. That way you can see if your choice is a good one. Main priority though, Have Fun with your new Pastime. :)

Thank you all very much for your kind welcomes and offers for advice. I can tell this is a very friendly forum. My cousin and I managed to get out last night with his 3" Reflector. We saw some double stars. Some open clusters and Andromeda. Was a great experience. I cannot wait to get a scope of my own now. Im selling some DJ gear to fund my new hobby so hopefully in the next few weeks I will be treating myself to either an 8' or 10' Dob. Ill be sure to report back when I have!
