Hi everyone, :hello2:

Just received a secondhand Vixen GP mount (in the pastel grey/green colour/color), dectination weight & wooden tripod earlier today, that was advertised on AB&S. Lovely piece of equipment and looked after by the previous owner/user. Without adding any of my scopes/OTA's at present it is smooth as my Tele-Optic Giro. The Vixen is a 'monster' compared to other equatorial mounts that I have owned and used in the past on previous 'scopes/OTA's. The build quality and drive is like comparing a Bentley, Rolls Royce & ZiL (ru: ЗиЛ) to my Nissan Micra. :angel9:

I cannot wait to start using it... :angel7:

I'm a great fan of Vixen stuff and the GP is a lovely piece of kit, congratulations

My Vixen ED102SS is of the same era and it's also put together extremely well. When you compare things like the focuser to Chinese copies there is no comparison in terms of tolerances.

Thank you guys! :icon_salut:

I forgot to mention that it did not come with a polarscope, (I knew about this at the time), so my question is:  Are polarscopes 'universal' fitting? :iamwithstupid:

I saw a Vixen polarscope on ebay earlier today for about £140.00GBP. Whereas FLO do the 'complete' Vixen polarscope kit for £139.00GBP and Celestron & SkyWatcher polarscope for £32.00GBP each. http://www.firstlightoptics.com/search/for/Polar+Axis+Scope/page/1/

I can, or at least, I think I can manage without one for the time being! :angel4:

Yes, the accessories don't come cheap.  I've had 2 GPs and 2 GP-DX mounts over the years, and have now learnt not to part with them and have one of each - one with Skysensor 2000 PC and one with the basis dual axis drive.  They are so well made and a real pleasure to use.  You'll enjoy yours, I am sure.  The polar scope is good, but you may be able to get by with drift aligning after a rough alignment through the hole where the polar scope would otherwise sit.

Going to have to 'swat up' on drift aligning then!

I am thinking about getting dual-scope/side-by-side brackets as my next astro-purchase. Maybe a polarscope may not be needed then! - What do you think? :iamwithstupid:
