Perseus_m45
I'm watching a thread on cloudy nights about 90 her and was wondering if any one in here has observed it. Here is my report to Haas on this star.july 25 2013 at 23:00 hours I split 90 Hercules with my 150mm. I believethat this is close to the limit for the meade ar6 there for I can notconfirm any smaller apperture as I like to do for this project.. your friend mikeAlso guys here are my notes on this star.using 5.1 mm epic and 2 x barlow i have a clean split on this star with the primary being a ruddish orange yellow and the secondary to small for a good color reference,,,a very nice double but difficult to split in the 6 inch..then again..looked at this star on 5/23/2014..i was able to split this star using a 3.7mm epic eyepiece in my 6 inch f/8 refractor..seeing was pickering 6/7..It seems a lot of people are having trouble with this star!! But as I said in the cloudy nights forum .I believe 90 her can be split with a good quality 140mm refractor..I bet that 5 inch mak can come dang close to splitting this star..Here is the link to the thread http://www.cloudynights.com/topic/424014-90-herculis/ What do you fellows think?mike h
alan potts
I haven't got a 6 inch scope any longer the next up in line is the 180mm Mak which is nice and sharp. I will try it next time out, it could be that with the humidity and maybe not so good skies in Europe the extra size will be required.Alan. I'll be interested to see how you get on as I am tossing up between a 180 Mak or a C8 SCT.....Chris
Perseus_m45
That 180 mak should be killer .mike h
Marki
Think I'll drag my Istar 150mm f10 out and give this ago. If I can split it with that, then I'll try with my TAL125r. No clear skies forecast here for ages though .

Stu
Pretty sure I got this tonight in the Vixen. Very tough, more so because the seeing was quite ropey. I would need to try it again to be 100% sure but it was best in a 5mm Hutech at x270. Coming and going with the seeing, but consistently in the same position so I'm reasonably sure I got it.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
chiltonstar
At x200 and x250 it was fairly clear in my Mak tonight. Despite the cloud (very wide vapour trail which stayed fixed) the seeing was excellent, with stable diff rings around the primary. As the scope cooled, the secondary detached itself from the primary - it looked cleanly separated. The PA looked to me slightly more than the Sissy Haas figure - may be an optical illusion as I couldn't use my graticule EP as the mag was too high.I would have said that this one is a little easier than 52 Cyg....? Opinions?Chris

Stu
Nice work BigMak I knew you guys could do it...Have you guys read the cloudy nights thread?mike hJust read through the thread and it is making me doubt that I would have got it with my skies last night if all those people have struggled with it. Definitely one to go back and check again
cotterless45
Pleased to get out and see anything last night. High hazy cloud certainly dulled the primary , but took the secondary away ! I tried at x266', but not convinced. I'll get my eagle eyed mate up to double check.By the time that I get the C6r out Hercules was headed well into the west and moisture had picked up the lp. Considerably bigger challenge than the easier 52 Cygni .Had a check of that as well as the triplesBu 433 and HJ 1516 in Cygnus.Packing up, everything was well dewed up.Keep 'em coming Mike !Nick. chiltonstar
Chris I had a feeling you would have no problem with that mak..congrats!!!I suspect part of the problem for this one depends on where the secondary falls wrt the diffraction ring. With my Mak, it was actually on the ring, and at times disappeared into it, to then re-appear as a dot on the ring itself, brighter than the rest of the ring which faded and brightened as conditions changed. Although the primary looked white to me in focus, it was maybe slightly orange o-o-f.Chris

Perseus_m45
Last night was very clear here "but"the freaking moon was so bright and the water vapor so thick it was like trying to look through a neon light from the inside out!!!! 90 Her was right at zenith for me ,,it would have been perfect if not for the light. I want to look at it again just for my own peace of mind..mike h
