September 2, 2014: Just spotted Comet Jacques again

Recommended Posts

Went outside with the 15x70 bins and managed to pick up Jacques near the North America Nebula. Much to my surprise, I could faintly make out the latter. I have spotted Jacques some weeks ago, and when I found it again today, I was struck by the large change in appearance. When I first spotted it, it looked very compact, with a very good surface brightness. It has now faded considerably, and become far more diffuse. Too tired to set up the mount and scope to do some imaging, but maybe I can have a shot tomorrow

Right up near the zenith last night. Very easy a third out from Deneb to Alderamin. Got it in x8 bins. Even better view than the scope in 15x60 bins. Quite bright in one of the dark areas of the Milky Way. In appearance, very much like the core of M31.

Nick.
