I am over the moon with it.

My first attempt with my 1100D on my 8SE, Orion, one single shot as I only have my Macbook and wouldn't know how to stack anyway, ISO 800, 30 sec. No processing as I don't know how to do that either, not the best I know but a gem for my memories and just to show a few family members and a lot of fun.

Then just this of Betelgeuse

Nice orion nebula.
Stacking is not that difficult.

Give a try with apt (astrophotography tool) or backyard EOS and use it to make the plans to take multiple pictures automatically, you set the exposure time, iso etc.

Than you use deep sky stacker to do stacking itself. There are several sites teaching how to do it and there's a lot of info here too.

For processing you can use a free software like gimp..

I think if you got that result with single exposure you will be very satisfied when you start learning to stack and process.

Congrats :)

The orion nebula is nice; such a rewarding feeling to see so much detail isn't it. I bet you were over the moon when you saw that on the camera - well done :)

Stacking really isn't that difficult; it's the levels and curves afterwards i find tricky.

But wonderful first image. Looking forward to seeing many more.

Stacking multiple exposures really helps. You can can a Windows 7 computer quite cheaply now and BYE would also run on it making image capture easier too. Here's one of the Orion Nebula that I stacked which shows what you could get by stacking.

I feel tired just looking at that !   what time did you stay up to to shoot it ?

Nice first image, keep going !

My husband goes to work in the early hours and I have always gotten up with him to make his breakfast, so we are early to bed people and very early to rise, was out at 3.30 till 5am.

Great start isnt it wondeful when you 1st get those colours appear on the screen it does look like you had a little camera shake did you use a camera remote if not you can dial in a delay on the canons and take multiple shots up to a max of 10 too.

Very well done for a first image.

Your image instantly made me think of my very first astrophoto which was also the Orion Nebula. I've just been digging around on the PC to find it...... eeek..... I don't remember it being that bad, I was chuffed to bits with it at the time.

This is last nights Bubble Nebula effort, a few years and a few thousand pounds later.

that's much better than any of my attempts with a 5se. Are you using a wedge on it by the way? As I would have thought  that might make your 30 secs a little better then of course you need to guide then scrap the mount and upgrade to a mesu. I know fortune telling is frowned on here but i foresee a frustrating and expensive future for you  unless you turn away from the dark side. again Well done

That's very nice. Must be the first Orion of the year. I do notice you've got doubled stars there - to me that looks like a bit of scope wobble rather than a tracking problem. Are you using the camera self-timer when taking the image?

Stacking in Deep Sky Stacker is very easy: open picture files, check all, register, stack and you're done. (You may want to deselect a few subs if DSS gives them a lower score after registering.) As someone else said, adjusting the curves is more tricky, it baffled me for a while.

If you're using a Canon 1100D you'll need the latest version of DSS with support for new cameras, I think it's 3.3.4. It's a bit hidden on their download page.

Thanks for all your kind comments.

Na, I won't be getting into AP on a serious level, twaz just a bit of fun that I will do now and again, the cost and skill level are beyond my abilities, but I do admit, it was a very exciting and satisfying experience

A very good first attempt and I would have been pleased with that for my first go.

I saw Orion for the first time last night, as it was as clear as a bell here, but unfortunately due to an operation on my knee I won't be able to image for about another 4 weeks. It's very frustrating .

Anyway, keep up the good work and hope to see more.
