Finderscope related query

Recommended Posts

Hey folks

I went on a stargaze yesterday and I immediately realized that the tiny 5x24 finder on my 5" reflector is way too bad. I decided to get a new finder. The query is, a Travelscope 50 is cheaper than a 6x30 finder of a decent make. So would it make sense to get a TravelScope 50, get new 5" tube rings and mount it up? It would make a 50mm right angled finder. It has an FL of 360mm, giving it a f-ratio of f/7.2.

Whilst I agree that the 5x24 finders need replacing for something better, a Skywatcher  9x50, designed for finding, I think would be a better bet than a modified Travelscope 50 for which you would have to buy new rings and a crosshair eyepiece.
