Obsy under planning...

As some of you may know I moved back from China and Aus earlier in the year to Ely in the UK.

I am now starting to initiate buying a house up around Downham Market. It is a new build and I chose the plot as it on the edge.

It has a reasonable sized south facing garden and  not many street lights in the area.

I am barguing (my wifes favourite word) with the builders to add a decent sized concrete slab with a nice hole in the centre to take a pier at a later date. Onto it I am planning a 9x9' ROR obsy. I can get the power line laid in much more easily.

If all goes ahead it will be ready in March/April.

I am fed up with setting up kit when it appears clear and then it clouds over after a short time.....

It's a good idea to get it sorted whilst the builders are there  will you be digging the hole for the pier base or getting somebody in ?

I think I might have the hole for the pier done, 1 m cube of concrete, and then put some hard core down for the obs ? Good luck with the project

Sounds like the best possible way to do it, especially if you can get the services put in as well.  If you can't get that done, perhaps you could at least get some ducting in that you could draw the cables through later?  Actually, perhaps ducting would be the best way to go to start with.  Then you could add network etc. later if you wanted to.

9x9, is that big enough?

Is there the equivalent to "aperture fever" that applies to obsy size?

I know a few pictures have been posted on SGL before now of houses with a roll-off roof :)

9x9 should be fine...I was checking my father's conservatory at the weekend and it is a 3mx3m area and imagining my mount in the middle. It would work. Bigger would be better but there is a budget to meet.

I would get the house builders to do the slab and leave the hole in the middle for the pier when I have the money for that. Also as has been pointed ourt the power cabling can be done proffessionaly at the time of slab laying etc.

The builders have already said while they cannot give me discunt on the actual house price they can do other things and do extras at the time of build at a better rate than I would get from others.

Mrs Baggy will be allowed a conservatory in trade for my obsy..otherwise I am going to have to persuade her that (as she is Chinese) all UK sheds have roll off roofs....
