1100d ISO setting

Hello all.

Hopefully out tonight. I'm trying to capture NGC 6888 The Crescent Nebula.

I will be using my modded 1100d on a SW 200p with CLS filter fitted.

I attempted this the other night but my results we're not that good.

Then the settings were at ISO 200 for 5 min guided subs.

I've not been astroimaging for a while.

Any advice on this please with the ISO settings or the white balance settings.

Hopefully trying for 15 min guided subs tonight.

Thanks for any advice.

iso 800 is probably nearer what you want. (in winter when its cold iso 1600 is also good).  Also 15min subs might generate too much noise from the camera heating up.  The best i did with the canon was 10 mins at iso800 and that was when using a ha filter.

The other limiting factor is how much light pollution you have.  long subs with a DLSR tend to get washed out with Orange murk. Take a few test shots and see how they look and adapt to the conditions

On the settings side of things, make sure that you capture Raw (CR2) and not JPEG to get the best quality image that you can get.

Other than that enjoy the clear skies your hoping for.

Cheers John

Remember that ISO does not change the sensitivity of your camera to light (so does not affect the total exposure time required). So you only really need to worry about saturation if you set it high, or quantisation if you set it low.  Also, with Canon's, the read noise is lower at high ISO, which might give some benefit if you have darks skies, are narrow band imaging, or are taking very short exposures.
