Imaged Comet Jacques with modded DSLR - please help me with colour balance!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

post-26268-0-29051700-1408624433_thumb.j

I fell asleep in my observatory last night whilst taking images of the comet. So today I used DSS to stack 100x30 second lights, 20 darks and 20 flats.

I caught it quite nicely going past the bottom of the Heart Nebula.

I selected the centre of the comet on every image to stack the comet and stars precisely.

But look at what DSS has thrown out.

My modded DSLR makes stuff super red (works great with nebulae) when doing more widefield stuff.

I'm sure I have heard talk on here about how to reset colour balance in Photoshop - I would REALLY appreciate a steer.

regards

Bob

I struggle with color balance in DSS also but I found the movement of the controls way to sensitive and had to concentrate hard to move the smallest amounts to get results. Also try setting a manual white balance in camera to try and counter the red color cast.

this what I managed with 7 frames and dew forming on the secondary

Thanks Andy - please can you explain how to set the manual custom white balance as if you were talking to an idiot? (lol)

Greetings

The data is still there it's just a matter of processing, I only used DSS with my picture although the number of frames is less the color came out, with the red cast maybe try a photoshop type app to tweak it some more.

bottom line is the green is in there somewhere but it's shy.
