By 9.45 it was dark enough to get a view of comet Jacques. Over the evening I kept returning and was surprised to see how fast it progressed through the star fields,post-6974-0-98508200-1408598220_thumb.jp

Had a look at NGC 40 in Cepheus , it shows a lovely halo, really fun compared to the usual bright round planetaries. A 10" will show you the dark space between the central star and halo.http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NGC_40

Still in Cepheus , some cluster,

IC 1396, a triple to one side and nebulosity.

NGC 7261 and NGC 7142 are richly bright , with plenty doubles in NGC 7160. I have notes of 23 open clusters here , it's a lovely constellation.

Over to Camelopardalis and the "Lime nebula" a small bright NGC IC 3568. Then the crackingly bright

NGC 147 a +9.5 galaxy in Cassiopeia. A bright streak , similar to NGC 1023.

Over to Serpens and the lovely cluster IC 4756, bung the mag up a bit to explore the star groups here.

It was a night of satellites , really busy up there.

Some high hazy stuff was drifting in. After checking on Patbloke, first lighting his Opticstar 80, I had a look at the Pleiades and packed in ,noticing some dew.

Clear skies,

Nick.
