Astro darkness..........the season begins.

We have had friends down to visit so last night was the 1st I have been able (or in a fit state) to get out late

since the return of full astronimical darkness, and though some hazy high sheets of cloud affected the sky early on,

it was a cracker.

I first looked at the asterism "The Summer Christmas Tree" that was highlighted in an article by Sue French

at S@T . This does indeed bear quite a resemblence to the Christmas Tree cluster in Monoceros and is quite showy.

Next up to Cygnus for a long search for Planetary Neb 6833. Took some finding although it is not particularly dim, it is

however tiny and I needed mag and OIII to pull it from the background stars. A tiny little blueish dot.

URANUS showed itself after midnight, and the 6mm lens showed its pale blue/green disk as darker towards the edges,

though when Neptune showed up, as usual I counted myself lucky I could see it was a disc. Much darker in hue is Neptune

as well as being much smaller and a bit dimmer.

I noticed the Plieades rising early morning (Autumn is coming) just before I managed to have my first peek at C/2014 E2 Jaques

gliding serenely out of Auriga (In the Comet Jaques thread) Just after 2 am. A nice Comet with a stubby tail this and well worth a visit.

1 Milky Coffee with some Cinnamon on it later, I went to be a happier human being all round.

Clear skies,      Mick.

The weather was rubbish here overnight with a little rain this morning (and as our chums drove back to

Skelmersdale last night into awful weather I guess yours was pants there too).

Clearing up now and hopefully we'll both get some clear sky

Mick
