Someone ripped a hole in the sun - 30/7/14

Hi,

I was up extra early this morning trying for some solar imaging, prior to going out for the day.  Sadly, there was too much cloud and way to much wind.  I did get set up, but never pressed the trigger.

The sun did make it out in the afternoon and I waited until 5:30pm until the sun was low enough over the sea.  It was still quite windy, but the seeing was pretty good.

WL - ZS80, Lunt wedge, ASI120MM-S, 0.8x FR.  The new AR has sheped up nicely.

Ha, As above, but with a Quark and a 0.5x FR.

Some has been along and ripped a great gash in the sun.  It was so bright it has flattened everything else around it.  Mosaic of two shots.

Great flare!! super images, a lucky catch :) :) :) Alexandra AR12127 014/07/30 start 16:00:00            Stop16:35:00      Peak16:17:00     C9.0Times in UT was this it?

I just caught the start then as my times were local, IE UT + 2 hours. I would need to check the computer for the actual time, but it would have been about 16:00 UT I took the Ha.

I am quit chuffed to have caught a flare.
