Colourful Cassiopeia.

Recommended Posts

Cassiopeia is now rising , a wonderful setting for gems in the path of the Milky Way. This selection has been enjoyed and picked out as the best of the bunch ;

Σ485 at 23h 02.7m. +55 14', the delicate secondary was spotted at x50, showing white and faint blue.

OΣ499 at 23h 33.2m. +57 24', yellow and blue in a wonderful field.

Σ3037 at 23h 46.1m. +60 28', a lovely triangle with a double at one corner in this multiple group.

Σ3057 at 00h 0.49m. +58 32', a delicate binary at x200 .

Σ3062 at 00h 06.3m. +58 26', a 1.6" split a bright pair at x200.

Σ16 at 00h 16.7m. +54 39', at x50, quite delicate, but not faint.

Σ48 at 00h 38.7m +71 22' , lovely pair of bright eyes at x50.

H V 82 and Σ59 at 00h 47.4m. +51 06', at x200 shows another "double double" ,but wide angled , some lovely colours here.

Eta Cassiopeiae, spot by eye, but at x50, colours vary with the observer. Just handy if you need to quickly show a double.

Σ65 at 00h 52.7m. +68 52' , equal binary stars split at 3" at x200.

Σ70 at 00h 53.8m. +52 42', bright with a delicate companion at x50.

h 2028 at 01h 16.6m. +74 02', a wide yellow and silver at x50.

Ψ Cassiopeiae at 01h 25.9m. +68 08', beautiful triple at x200, lovely colouring here.

Σ131 at 01h 33.2m +60 41', yellow and blue at x100.

Σ170 at 01h 55.4m. +76 13' white and green at x100.

Σ191 at 02h 03.2m. +73 51' another delicacy at x100.

ENG 10 at 02h 15.7m. +67 40' orange and blue at x100. Another immediate " show me a triple " next,

ι Cassiopeiae at 02h 29.1m. +67 24', continue up from the lh end and you'll find the only bright star . Zoom in and a fine triple, yellow, the blue secondary has a wee companion, neat.

No challenges here, just a very enjoyable constellation normally famed for it's NGCs and Messiers .

Clear skies,

Nick.

Awesome Nick! I observed Eta Cassiopeia late last night, what a great pair-yellow and red and over to Pi Aquilae the colors last night were the best yet-yellow and a very nice blue @ 250x -270x.

The lists and info you give are extremely helpful Nick-thanks.

Easy to get lost in dark skies! I like the square kite with a tail description for Cass, :icon_salut::grin: I got lost in Cepheus the other night, couldn't find NGC 6939,NGC 6946.... :rolleyes2: heck I'm not even sure if I found Alderamin....

Like Nick says there is a pile of stuff in Cass, great place and thanks again for giving us a directions to the area Nick!

Great list, Nick. I had a nice view of sigma Cassiopeiae (SAO 35497) tonight - new one for me :). Big white-grey primary, and a smaller white secondary, close in (although Smyth is said to have seen it as blue). I love this constellation! So many treasures :).

Nick

Nice list :)

I have always enjoyed a wander through Cassiopeia.

I had noticed one point that made me check my CDSA, I have STF485 in Camelopardalis in open cluster NGC1502.

When I looked at my CDSA there are 2 entirs fro STF485 one in Cam and one is Cass.

On further investigation it looks like the one is Cass is STT485.

I have added it to my CDSA error log,

Cheers

Ian
