Gina's Preposterous Projects

In view of the interest in all the way-out things I get up to I thought I would post a list of astronomy related projects I currently have in progress or as a definite idea.

  1. Observatory ROR wheels/carriages and spacers
  2. Observatory ROR automation
  3. Various remote focussing units
  4. Debayer 450D sensor
  5. 450D dry box, filter wheel, OAG and cooling/control unit
  6. 1100D dry box and cooling unit
  7. Widefield mount, power and control system
  8. Widefield mount mini observatory
  9. All sky night camera
  10. Rain sensor
  11. Cloud detector
  12. Weather station
  13. CCTV control system
  14. DIY 3D printer for large parts

I think that's the lot but I may well have forgotten something :D

My list shares quite a few items there :)  Unfortunately my wife then decides that a whole pile of other stuff needs adding in as well.  Usually at higher priority :D

James

Oh, my general job list is much much longer than that!  Several years of neglect due to my caring duties and Tim's medical problems, has left the property in need of a lot of work.  Then there is a vast amount of clearing out to be done plus administrative tasks on top of that :(

so if these are mostly in-progress, which one are you aiming to finish first?

Good question :D  Depends on how thing go and what I feel most like doing at any time but I could do with getting the obsy ROR finished.

Great list Gina, keeps the rest of us busy too reading them.

I do think the list is a bit small though maybe there should be a voted for by SGL new project.

Keep up the great work you are inspirational.

you've inspired me to write my own to do list, so far it consists of

1. gather up the astro gear that is spread around the house and keep it all together

2. finish the weather proof box on the side of my outdoor pier so I can keep the cables in

3. play with eqmod

I'm starting fairly small in comparison :)

My list seems to be getting longer as well, most items are half finished, sound familiar?

Housing for 30" Dob (Current job)

30" refurbishment

8" reflecting binoscope

4" refracting binoscope

12" F6 Dob

12" F20 Cassegrain

12" F8.5 Newt

18" F3.6 video Newt

Probably some more hiding under that lot.

Thanks everyone :)

I see I did miss a couple :D

I too need to collect up all my astro bits form all over the place :D

Anodising - yes, I had forgotten that.  There will probably be some adapters yet to be turned on the lathe and then anodised.

I only included DIY astro hardware projects in the list.  I have a pile of image data to process for the Cygnus Loop mosaic and I think there's also some from a while back that I never got round to processing due to emotional overload.

I think a list of DSO targets probably belongs in the DSO Imaging forum :D

Good one John :)

I've just thought of another of mine - a proper mains connection to the obsy.  I'm still using an extension lead    Shouldn't take much to finish it off - I have already laid the underground armoured cable and brought in into the back porch.  Just need to connect cable to RCD and then a cable from that to a 13A plug, to plug into a wall socket.

At the moment I am working on:

Arduino-Ascom focuser

Low cost obsy consisting of:

- PC, monitor, desk in shed connected to...

- Permanent outdoor pier

Power supply / USB / dew control box. Will be mounted on pier eventually

And on the not-started list:

DIY dew bands. I have all the parts.

All-sky camera. I have a 250mm dome and may use my ASI120MC but may get a cheaper dedicated camera.

Plus various half-finished diy jobs around the house.

I need to spend less time at work
