Modifying a crayford

I have one of these:

can anyone see a problem with drilling and tapping a hole close to each of the mounting bolt holes to allow for alignment of the crayford with the optical path? as it is, there's no adjustment to do so. Only needs to be 2 or 3mm dia. Trying to do it with shims has proved 'uncooperative'.
