Gimp download problems Mac

Hi All,

Has anyone had any problems downloading and running Gimp on there Mac, i have downloaded it but when i click on the Gimp icon to run it just freezes up on me and i have to force quit it.

What i am looking for is a free program were i can mask images, i have Lightroom 5 but you can not do it on there and i am not paying silly money for Photoshop, has anyone got any ideas.

Gimp should work, what version of Gimp and OSX are you using?
