Hi, thought I would post a couple of images from videos that I took of Saturn on 16 May and 30 May.

Both images were taken with my new QHY5L II colour camera.

16 May 2014 -- C8 XLT, CGEM, Revelation 2" Superfocus R&P focuser, Explore Scientific 5x focal extender.

30 May 2014 -- C8 XLT, CGEM, Revelation 2" Superfocus R&P focuser, Revelation 2.5x barlow.

Both images were run through PIPP to centre the planet and reduce the frames to the best 25% then aligned and stacked in registax 6, further reducing to the best 5%, then wavelets, with some post processing in PS7.

Thanks for all the positive comments!

Yes Steve, the 2.5x Revelation barlow seems to be better than the 5x Explore Scientific tele extender. It may have just been the extra magnification reduced the focus 'sweet spot' and I was just outside it. Or it may have been that the seeing was better on the 30th when I used the 2.5x. Either way I prefer the 2.5x version as I can just about make out the Northern hexagonal storm.

I believe the chip is indeed the same Michael, I just really like how small the QHY is. If I ever use the hyperstar function on my scope then it shouldn't obscure any more of the light than the current secondary holder.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thanks guys! I desperately wanted to get out and do some more runs before Saturn got too low but I have been having trouble with my capture software and had a completely wasted night last week as I couldn't get any of my capture programmes to work!  :BangHead:  Still, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, so they say!!!
