Noctilucent Clouds....or not?

Recommended Posts

whilst out last night it was starting to get fairly dark, (certainly darker than the blue pic looks, and I'm still unsure whether or not these are noctilcent clouds or not. Any opinions?

forgive the quality of the pics, I've no experience in taking photos of night time clouds :(.

Same pic, just played with the darker version in PS

Does not look like an NLC to me, sorry to say...

What altitude was the cloud at, btw. From the UK they are mostly pretty near the horizon.

It is very easy to confuse cirrus at sunset or moon illuminated (I know moon illuminated isn't the case here!) with NLC.

Once you've seen a real one for real, you'll know the difference.

The pics on my blog might give a bit of an idea (from 2011).

Not at all!

Useful site is nlcnet.co.uk and their twitter feed to alert on potential NLC sightings.

Always worth a look out on a clear summer evening - be persistent!

Cheers, Callum
