Thought I'd start a thread where we can announce any trips to the dark side ( if we can find one  :grin: )

might be a bit easier to see if there's any activity if it's all i one thread !

If its clear Sunday 4th May I might pop over to Havastro's viewing evening ...

p.s. if there are any Havastro members on here, tell me off if I shouldn't be anouncing this.

As far as I know its an open meet, no membership needed

I've been prepping my laptop and charging my power packs today, a friend I met at Havering astro is coming over around 11, will probably start imaging once the lights go off. Anyone else want to join us?

Do you mean Weald? Weather isn't looking great but I'm still borrowing a 6 seater jeep at the moment so it would be easy to bring my stuff at least. Are you still going?

Popped over to Havastro veiwing evening last night ... didn't go too well ... clouded over on the way :-( , someone changed the code on the car park padlock and we couldn't get in !

Met Dan_uk at the gate and had a quick chat ( hello to the lady with bins if you're lurking).

After a longish waffle and seeing as we had the scopes in our boots already we decided to check out the (hopefully) darkish site Dan found in Willingale.

Difficult to tell just how dark it was as it was cloudy with a few gaps that were quite hazy but apart from a very restricted view to the east it seemed pretty good.

Dan and his other half found M3, M5, Double cluster to name but a few while I found ... nothing ... apart from the Moon , Jupiter and Mars of course.

A good end to what could have been a complete wash out and it was good to finally put a name to a face !

Should add that in no way could Havastro be blamed for someone changing the code with out telling them ! I've been to their evenings before and had a good evening each time !

Just have to say thanks to Gary for convincing us to head out, for once I got to see the clouds receding while I was out instead of the other way round! I think the site has potential, indeed the area in general and I hope others get to make use of it.

If anyone is interested I may head there on Friday if the forecast looks good.

If anyones up for a bit of trail blazing, this Saturday or Sunday night I might be popping over here http://goo.gl/0AIOjO with bins to see if its as dark as the dark sky apps / web sites say it is.

to the east of the pin is a large concrete area, enough for 4 or 5 cars plus scopes.

I've contacted the landowner and they are fine about access so long as we leave it clean and tidy.

Looks good Knobby. However I am baby sitting tonight! let me know how it goes.....that and the power steering just failed on my car...and that will be a grand to sort out...oh well.
