Using Alignmaster with my telescope

Hi! Having read a handful of positive comments by people using align master, I decided to give it a try myself. I have installed the ASCOM drivers as well as a driver for my mount and have also installed Alignmaster on my laptop. The question now is do I need to use a normal network cable to connect my controller to the laptop since my mount doesn't have a network port or do I need to use a cross cable? Your help is much appreciated.

Would help if you told us what mount you have !

If it's one of the Skywatcher mounts such as EQ5 / HEQ5 etc then you need an EQDIRECT cable.  This is a USB to RS232 serial cable wired to suit the mounts inputs.  Do not use a standard or cross-over network cable

I am using a Vixen SXD mount.

It's ok. I think I got it. I checked the manual and it says to use a crossover cable. Will give it a try.
