Help! APT ascom camera settings

Recommended Posts

Hi

I've been using my qhy8l ccd via the APT/ascom camera option. However, I have a problem with the latest driver in that I can't check the settings box which would enable me to select 'effective area only'.  This means all my subs are overscanned so I have to manually crop them which is a bit of a pain. According to MrQ (qhyccd) I can only check the box when the camera isn't connected. But if the camera isn't connected I can't access the camera settings at all (in APT). I have a headache    Am I missing something here?

Grateful for any constructive suggestions, tea and sympathy

Thanks

Louise

 Hi Louise,

Could you try to access the ASCOM settings on connection time? When you use Shift+Connect APT opens the ASCOM camera selector dialog. After you select the camera there the Properties button becomes enabled. Maybe the driver will allow to control this setting from there?

Hi Yoddha

Yay - that works! Hopefully I won't have the oversized image now. Of course, I suppose I'll have to create a whole new set of calibration frames...

Anyway, thanks a lot - APT is great! :)

Hi Ivo

Um, mind you, I do have a couple of (minor!) gripes.... It would be good if 'shoot' and 'start' were disabled when liveview is running...

Also would be good if default liveview exposure times were short e.g. 1 sec

It would also be good if there was the option to do very short exposures in ascom camera mode to allow using/testing a ccd camera in daylight.

Cheers

In other Words. Planetary camera and imaging features added, so I can use it to image with my QHY5L-II.

Hi Louise,

Every suggestion is welcome :)

The LiveView exposure can be controlled from the list or from "bulb seconds" if "bulb" is selected. APT remembers the last used value. If you need very short exposure you can select "bulb" and enter 0.001 :)

I have checked the Start button is disabled here during LiveView. Could you check it with your camera? As for Shoot the idea is to be able to store an image with the current parameters :)

Hi again

Ahh.. I didn't realise that bulb could be set to ms - useful to know  . Yes, 'start' is disabled - my mistake! But, from memory, I think that (accidentally) clicking on shoot when liveview is running makes APT unhappy...

Um, can I do anything to prevent liveview auto setting 4 x 4 binning - it might be bright but it's much too small an image to be useful!

Thanks

Louise
