April 19, 2014, 08:20 : Big prom visible on eastern limb

Recommended Posts

Just had the LS35 out on this sunny morning. A big, complex set of proms is visible on the eastern limb, looking like a double arc. Lots of activity on the surface as well. The huge loop of filaments seen yesterday is still there, to its west lies a V-shape of bright features. Many other large bright structures can be seen. Looks very active again. Well worth keeping an eye on.

Your resent descriptions of solar activity has really wetted my appetite for solar ha observing, thus I've ordered a lunt 35mm from flo yesterday......CAN'T WAIT :-)

Reading other people's observing reports can be dangerous to your bank account ;)

Have fun with the LS35!

Solar disk similar to yesterday.  9 groups counted, 5 north, 4 south, R = 152.  AR2039 seems to have faded overnight being replaced by the faint Bxo group 2040 further to the east.

AR2035 is a fine sight in the southwest quadrant with plenty of H-alpha plage around the following sunspots.  Plage was also seen with AR2036 and AR2038 and around the trailing sunspot in AR2042.

A small but quite fine loop prominence was seen on the eastern limb, two other very small prominence hearths were counted along with six filaments.  The splendid semi circular filament around AR2038 is still present.

Another cloudless sky so the telescope will remain in position for the rest of day in case we have another flare event.  Let's hope so.

I caught it Michael and it is still a live event   Some beautiful groups of sunspots around the 9 O'clock position the largest group is made up of smaller spots and they are forming almost a  complete circle, this could get very interesting as they move toward the edge of the disc.

Anyone that doesn't have a Solar scope should buy one today

There's a spot of bright plage near a long filament in the southeast quadrant not far from the limb.  Nothing on the limb yet.  SOHO showing some small spots forming near the plage area and also a spot just over the southeast limb which may herald a larger group about to rotate.
