nytecam
Here the M87 jet from last night before moonrise in 15s exp @ f/10 and 3m fl for best image scale - my best shot of this ellusive object. It was just visible intermitently in a 5sec exposure loop ;-)

Martin Meredith
Very nice! I had a go last night but don't think I got it. What do you reckon? Is the thing at 3 o'clock something more than wishful thinking?Martin
nytecam
I'm not sure Martin and a bit confused by orientation - 480mm fl gives a low image scale. You may have recorded the two tiny gxs at 5pm on my image you've arrowed :-)
Martin Meredith
I'm now convinced they're the little galaxies you marked. I spotted them on a couple of web sources but couldn't find any estimate of their magnitudes.Well, I'll try again with a barlow at some point. And orientation is something else I need to be consistent with (swapping out the diagonal etc) as I confuse myself trying to interpret these images. Still very much learning...Martin
NickK
aladin (strasboug uni) is one of the best applications for this.
Martin Meredith
Thanks Nick - that's an excellent resource, according to which we're looking at UGC7652 and UGC7652b at magnitudes 16.6 and 16.8 respectively. Nice to know!Martin
