How do i combine 3 or 4 images into one in GIMP?

Recommended Posts

After getting a bunch of images of the eclipse the other night I would like to take about 3 or 4 of them and combine them into 1 image to show the progression.

I have been putzing around in GIMP trying to figure out some way to do it and just can't figure it out. I don't even know if this can be done with GIMP.

I am pretty sure I would have to go into the layers sub menu but just can't get it to do what I want it too.

I don't know if it can be done in The Gimp - but as an alternative you could use Registax to align and stack them, then pass the output file from there to Gimp for further processing. Registax is free to download. Hth :)

Thanks brantuk but maybe my question wasn't clear enough.  :embarassed:

During the eclipse I took about 300 frames every half hour or so. I have these individual batches already aligned, stacked and wavelets adjusted. So I ended up with 5 final stacked and processed images from first shadow to full eclipse.

I want to put all the final images into one picture to show the progression. Kind of like this one that I stole off of Wikipedia.

Matt - I  do this sort of thing in GIMP by opening one image, crop it to the minimum to get the required detail in, then use Image > Canvas Size to enlarge the working area, then copy the other (cropped) images into that as layers.
