Atik 428EX image problem

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2 week old Atik 428EX and I am having connection and image download issues. I have tried installing, uninstalling, reinstalling Atik and ASCOM drivers, as well as both AC and DC power and sometimes the camera is recognized and sometimes not. I even tried a different PC to rule out my computer. I ordered a regulated power supply because I think the connection issues are related to dodgy power source.

When I can connect the camera, the image capture seems to go fine except only part of the image is recorded or downloaded. I have tried with APT, Artemis, and SGP and the result is the same. Has anyone seen this behavior or have an idea why it might be happening?

Thanks,

Dave

Ivo - Thank you for the suggestion. I did try swapping all of the cable with known functioning cables. We have only had 3 clear nights in the last 3 weeks and I have wasted them all fumbling around with this camera. I think its time to send it back to the vendor.

Judging by the number of responses, I guess this isn't a common problem.

Try running it on a 13.8v supply, if still no joy then send it back. Your problem is very uncommon (first time ive seen it actually), so you would be very likely get a straight swap from your vendor should you choose to return it.

Thanks for the suggestions Ivo and U235. I picked up a 13.8V power supply and it seems to have fixed the problem. Both the connection and the partial download issues have disappeared. I guess the power in my house and job can be a bit dodgy. I still had the image download issue with my celestron power tank so now I'm wondering if its not working properly.

I spoke too soon. It happened agin last night on the regulated power supply. I am also having issues with the cooler. Sometimes when I go to set the cooler temperature, and it doesn't matter which software I use, the temperature is reported at some obviously wrong value like 1700 degrees. The camera is going back to the vender today. Hopefully they have another one in stock because after using the CCD I don't want to go back to using a DSLR.

I tried different usb and power cables. If I could try a different one I did - power supply, cables, computer, software.

I also tried you is is OS X application and the camera seems to be connecting and disconnecting. The icon in the left panel of the app keeps flashing on and off.

I hope the vender gives me a new camera. I didn't get a good feeling when I called them and tried to describe the problem.
