How do you record your workflow?

Recommended Posts

I have a general workflow that follows a certain sequence, however with some images certain tasks/tools/filters don't work so they are skipped or tweaked until they look pleasing...However after I have finished an image (in multiple packages), I have no idea of the exact workflow that I followed for a specific image.

I sometimes have many windows open trying different tasks/filters/operations so it can get quite difficult to record the final operations performed.

I have a couple of instances where no matter what I do there is no way I can seem to replicate the output I have produced previously and I'd like to know what the key operation was that made it look acceptable.

Just wondered what others do to record their processing steps.

I was just thinking the same yesterday - I was processing an image yesterday but would like to add more subs to it at some stage and repeat the processing but I probably won't recall exactly what I did first time round.

The only way I could think of doing it was to have the Notepad application open and jot down exactly what I'm doing at each step during the processing then save this alongside the subs and processed images.  I'm going to try that next time but it's going to require painstaking attention to detail to ensure everything gets documented.

I have a printout of a standard workflow (LLRGB by Scott Rosen) that I follow for all my processing. I tick or cross (or add steps) in pen as I work through the workflow and at certain steps I save the image with the name showing which steps have been undertaken..........if that makes sense. :)
