I viewed SN 2014ad on March 21, 2014 with a 17.5-inch Dobsonian on a subpar night.  The field was easy to find as the host galaxy lies close to the 7th magnitude star SAO 138503.  The galaxy was not visible, but the superova could be seen.  My estimate was about 14.1.

That's been the only night I've observed it.

It's on the decline now.  It was 15.2V today through a robotic telescope.  That's still within range of the 17.5-inch if I can get a good night this week before it fades too much further.
