Star Trouble!

Hi all. I processed this rather poor image of the Coma Cluster (will frame it better next time!) using Doug German's star mask tutorial, here:

But my stars still came out harsh and lacking in colour. Is there a better method to keep the star colour? If so, is there a link you can give me?

That's the one I've tried already! It's a good technique. I think I'll need to bring our the star colour during processing before they get too stretched. My current stars are too far gone though. I thought the star mask would help. I'm a bit disappointed with my efforts. Back to the drawing board!
