Say good bye to winter sky

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

the last winter was a terrible one. Clouds, clouds, clouds and fog, fog, fog.

Yesterday I could capture a view to the winter constellations. They are going now and I could never take an image....

I hope they will come back.

Indeed, I noticed that Orion had already culminated by late twilight when I was setting up my scope the other night.

He's like an old friend and I'm always sad to see him depart in spring. Particularly because he's followed by much less spectacular constellation.

Good job we've got some planets making their way into the evening sky!

Great picture!! I too am kind of sad that the winter stars are leaving. Just had my first scope since November and I learned on these stars. After a month of goto aligning I knew almost all the brighter alignment stars and could pick them out of the sky with no problem. Now when I try to align, The list looks so foreign to me. Those bright familiar constellations that I knew so well are replaced with unfamiliar daunting ones.

I know that I will learn the new ones just as I did the old, but for now it seems a bit daunting.

From my garden I can't see the West, so the stars seem to fly past twice as fast for me. By the time it is dark, Orion is drifting behind the tower block south of me and only Betelgeuse is visible.

The sky seems empty in Spring after the bright Winter stars.

My garden faces West.So it is late nights for

me.  I have to wait till everything goes over the

house, before I can do anything.

Thank you very much for the nice comments!!!

I love it to do naked eye astronomy. Observing the constellations, the rising and the setting. And it is also very nice to observe the setting of an object through the telescope. M42 for example.

Here two other pics:

"Goldenes Tor der Eklipitik" means the golden gate of the ecliptic.

Great photo.

I'm not sad, spring is my favourite season by far. I love galaxy hunting, we have Mars and Saturn coming to the evening sky, warmer temps and it may seem strange but the longer days of spring work better for me. Much better coming home from work in daylight, setup the scope in daylight, see the family and then go out for 8-9pm. Do 3-4 hours and then bed. Perfect.
