Hello all i have just read the rules of the forum and after lurking for a few weeks thought i would register and say hello.

As someone who has always been interested in space and looking at the sky whenever i could i took the plunge and bought one of those cheapy telescopes at Aldi... or was it LIDL? Its a Bresser Skylux EL btw and came with a decent program called Stellarium, Anyway i was impressed by the views i could get of the moon and even managed to get a decent view of Jupiter recently. Quickly realising this was not going to do what i wanted it to do i bought a Astromaster 130 eq and some accessories, i am now in the process of trying to learn how to use the thing properly and have realised the star pointer is rubbish and am looking at upgrading that with a telrad finder from amazon.

My past few nights have been a little frustrating with the new scope and i realise i have a lot to learn, hence i am here and looking forward to being hedjumacated in my new found hobby.

Hi Denise welcome to the lounge,

and welcome to this wonderful hobby, it takes a while to get used to

new kit, the more you practice the easier it gets, this hobby can get

frustrating sometimes especially the weather.

Good Luck and Clear Sky's

Hi Denise, welcome from me too.  Just a quick note, it is best always to buy your astronomy supplies from a dedicated astronomy shop.  FLO, the forum sponsers are one of the best and always good at giving advice.  Service is first class.

Hello Denise, I like your story - at least now you have a decent scope to play with - as clear nights are precious I would suggest that you get to grips with the scope during the day time where you can see what you are doing and become familiar with the functions and how to use them, then when you do get a clear night you will be ready to go! Good luck

Hi Denise and welcome to the forum. Yes the star pointer is a bit of a pain to align and the red light is way too bright but a move to a Telrad is a good idea or perhaps from an aesthetic point of view you might like to consider the Rigel Quikfinder which will do the job equally as well and is a little smaller than the Telrad, which does look a bit like a Hamster's coffin.

Clear skies and enjoy the forum

James
