Finally, the zoom and barlow arrived, almost 4 weeks after the order. The delayed was caused by strong sale before Christmas which made the adapter out of stock according to APM.

Anyway here's some pictures:

1. Unboxing:

Well packed zoom and barlow

2, Some Phisical data:

The Zoom weighs 470/510gram with/without 2" adapter, 115mm long with the adapter, here's a picture together with my other big boys (Skywather AERO 40mm, Baader Aspheric 31mm and Maxvision 24mm)

With the 1.25" VIP added to Leica for 1.5x, the zoom becomes longer than 40mm Aero:

3. Coating:

Very dark, a picture togethere with BCO 18mm:

Looking at a white background, Leica is at least as white as BCO 18mm.

First impression:

The weather forecast pointing to some less cloudy nights towards the weekend, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Very interesting acquisition Yong - congratulations

I so very nearly bought the zoom and a VIP barlow recently, I shall be very interested to hear your reports on them. I only hesitated because of very slight doubts I had on how it would do in my 12" dob although a recent "Cloudynights" thread indicates that there are no problems there either

You can tell me about what I've missed out on !

Thanks guys. Here's some folow-ups. The zoom moves very smoothly, with just right solid feeling, no backlash anywhere. There's no click stops as the Baader zoom, only marks of 25x, 30x, 40x and 50x, with the dot stops right in the middle in high and low ends, as shown in the pics below:

8.9mm

@Rowan & Gerry: Reduing number of EP is one of my objects too.

@Jonathan: You're right, I'm most interested in looking through it.

@John: What you're going to miss out on is some nights of viewing through it, if there comes more positive reviews on it

Some more info about Leica zoom.

I found a spot on the inside of the zoom the other day, not sure how it got there since it was not there earlier.

I mailed Leica support with the picure and question, they asked for the purchasing date and serial number of the zoom, a pre-paid UPS package tag mailed to me direct afterwards for sending the zoom to Germany for cleaning.

Since quite some leica zoom owners have mentioned issues with broken eyecup, I thought it might be good to get one in advance too, as they were still sending me a package back.

Package was dropped at a UPS center, mail info from Leica about receiving the package, items inside, eyecup sent, works done came with couple of days interval, and the zoom is back now with clean lens

In the meantime, I had received two more packages, onw with the rubber eyecup, one with the plastic eyecup guide

All these cost me nada, zero, 0.

The quality of support and 5-warranty surely make this zoom more price-worthy to me
