EQ8 Az Locking Screws

Recommended Posts

Could anyone with the EQ8 please confirm the thread and pitch of the azimuth locking screws for me? Also the length of it.

I don't want to mess around with an allen key in the field so am going to get some thumbscrews made up.

Also what sort of size would be suitable for the thumb/grip part so as to not foul the mount?

Thanks,

Stephen

They are M8x1.25.  I doubt that you will get thumbscrews to suit as the centre-line of the slots is only 12mm from the main casting.

Something like this might work, though:

The base of the mount is 15mm thick, so you'd need a thread length of about 25-30mm. You'll also end up with arms like Popeye if you are lugging an EQ8 about. Its heavy!

Thank you very much for the info :)

Yeah I know it's a bit on the weighty side ... but it's the same weight as my battery and that's not got handles

I had these made up by Astrotec - I think they will do the job quite nicely :D Will be testing them out next week when it arrives!
