StuartJPP
Since it is that time of the month again (full moon), I thought I'd rework M1 that I attempted a short while ago. I wasn't quite happy with the results but this time around with a bit more processing I am a lot happier with the final result, though I could still do with lots more data. Not great, but it still amazes me that you can get this with a camera lens, albeit a fairly largish one. A bit of bloat on the bright stars, will have to see if the CLS-CCD filter will reduce that.100% Crop From Modified Canon 1100D with Canon 500mm f/4 L IS Lens @ f/4 and ISO1600AstroTrac TT320X Mount.45x 60 Second Lights
Herrman
Very impressive image with a 500 mm lens. I've had less success imaging M1 with much larger instruments!Regards, Herrman

StuartJPP
Thanks everyone, it is always useful to revisit old data since we don't get so many opportunities to get new data.

StuartJPP
Thanks again everyone. For anyone contemplating getting an AstroTrac, I can highly recommend one, though like most things it needs a bit of tweaking to get the most out of it. StuartJPP
That's a beautiful image. Thanks! What mount do you need for the astrotrac or can you use any mount?SimonHi Simon, the AstroTrac sits on top of a tripod. The sequence is as follows:Tripod-Head1-AstroTrac-Head2Tripod is a regular tripod, the sturdier the better depending on focal length. Head1 is some form of geared head or wedge to allow polar alignment. Head2 is for aiming your camera at an object in the sky.

psemil
I believe that you can use any tripod that is strong enough for the weight of the imaging systemVery Good image .... made unguided.
