New Starlight Xpress Trius Cameras

Recommended Posts

We have received details of a new range of Starlight Xpress Trius imaging cameras

Update: The full range of Starlight Xpress Trius cameras are now listed at our website.

The new cameras retain the already super-low-noise performance of the previous generation SXVR models whilst maintaining fast download times of approximately 2 million pixels per second. In addition Starlight Xpress have incorporated a complete powered USB hub into the camera body which offers 3x USB 2.0 ports. Each port is capable of delivering up to 200mA so is able to drive a Lodestar, SuperStar or CoStar guide-camera whilst leaving another two USB ports for a USB filter wheel and one other peripheral. This integration greatly reduces the number of cable trails back to the computer so reducing the likelihood of cables tangling around the mount during the imaging session.

New Peltier cooler combinations have also been designed into the Trius cameras, along with an Argon-Filled CCD chamber, to allow a greater differential cooling delta to be achieved.

Starlight Xpress have a small quantity of SXVR cameras available but from the 5th August SXVR cameras will no longer be in production and the new Trius models will be launched.

We will have information regarding prices and availability around the end of this month.

For more details and specifications, including a downloadable pdf brochure, please see the Starlight Xpress Trius post at our website.

Sorry this thread disappeared then reappeared.

Apparently we jumped the gun, us dealers weren't supposed to announce the new cameras until 5th August, so the thread was removed. Today someone PM'd me to say the new models are displayed at at least one competitor's website so the thread is back

The filter wheels use USB-B connections.

The cameras will include three Mini-B to female A leads which plug into the cable from your SX guide camera or filter wheel.

They will also include one Mini-B to Mini-B lead. We can supply more if required

I have now added these to the Imaging Toolbox in case anyone with money burning a hole in their pocket wants to compare the FOVs. The links below will show each camera on a Skywatcher 80ED DS Pro with 0.85 reducer, but you can easily change the scope and reducer for your own using the 'Equipment' form on the Imaging Toolbox page:

These look very interesting, especially the SX-16 with the Kodak sensor. I am guessing this model will be very similar to the Atik 4000, but is in a smaller body and has slightly more ports, so might suit my Hyperstar. I have been toying with the idea of a Atik 4000 so will look at these when pricing and availability is released.

More good news

The 'Sky & Telescope' magazine has given their Hot Products 2014 award to the Starlight Xpress Trius range of cameras. Primarily they were impressed by the innovative built-in USB hub that minimises the number of cables going back to the computer, so reducing cable drag, but they were also impressed by the Argon filled chamber with fused Silica window and the compact design.

They also gave the same award to the Starlight Xpress Mini Filter Wheel for the built-in OAG which provides a 55mm back focus (when used with a Starlight Xpress camera with 17mm back focus) which enables it to work with most Focal reducers (focal reducers typically have a back focus of 54mm - 56mm).
And they are designed and manufactured here in the UK  :icon_king:
