DSS :D

Thanks for the tip, i didnt get it to work when i followed the set-by-step tutorial but the "pre-packed" DSS worked right away!

StarStax startrails software

I've not as yet had a chance to really test either of them, but DSS does run, which is a good start.

You should add Aladin to the list.. it's cross platform but there's a Mac client you can use..

Is this the software you refers to?; http://aladin.u-strasbg.fr

Good plan. I was thinking along the same lines, in fact this app is really just the test harness for the CoreAstro plate-solver plugin. This is it working in the full capture app the other night.

I'll probably add AppleScript/Automator support to the solver app anyway as it's proving to be quite handy in its own right !

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but a Mac aficionado nonetheless.

Although I don't as yet own any equipment, I have been keeping an eye out for 'Mac friendly' software in which to invest & in so doing I came across this http://astronomyonline.org/astronomysoftware.asp#Apple

Whilst it has a few broken links and is probably out of date somewhat, it did help in directing me to products that would help with future guiding and imaging on my MacBook (I even decided to download Equinox to have a 'peek' at its functionality).

I hope this helps rather than hinders?

If you decided to go with Equinox (ver 140.2) through the App store , then for only $24 (about £15.50) you can then upgrade to Equinox Pro for Mac OSX http://www.microprojects.ca/register.html - this adds a bit more functionality and options for both guiding and imaging (Synscan, PHD etc). I am getting my new 'rig' on Monday and can't wait to begin learning/using (without the hassle of dual-booting and using Windows). I'll report my findings in due course, but bear with me as I'm new to all this!

Really useful thread for us Mac users. I'll do anything for love but I won't PC.

I have to agree!

Here are more links for Mac aficionados http://www.stargazing.net/David/equip/MacBookPro.html - this one is dated January 2013 so over a year old and refers to Mac OSX 10.8.x but again contains some useful pointers (IMHO)

There's also this http://www.spacetelescope.org/projects/fits_liberator/download_v301/ - FITS software for the Mac (OSX 10.5+)  & I also found this ancient thread in Apple Support https://discussions.apple.com/message/4507459#4507459 its from 2007 but hey - at least it's something!

I must admit that I don't really have any user experience of Mac friendly software as yet but I hope to very soon.

Cheers & Clear Skies!

Graham
