Using a WO binoviewer with a PST .

Is it possible to do this without using some fancy and expensive adaptor?

I think the straight answer is no, there just isn't enough in focus. Probably the best way to get binocular vision is to buy a second PST and mount the pair as a binocular, I did this some years ago and the results were outstanding.
