Default Feb 4th Mars Saturn above avg seeing - 5th February 2012, 06:24 AM

SPX350, PGRFlea3, Astrodon RRGB. Mars F55.2, Saturn F34.8.

Rains and wind ruined January but Feb may be better. Mars slowly improved giving good detail in the red channel but blue spoilt it - still ringing a little. Saturn imaged quickly before finishing and the red channel was very steady giving a great result.

Mars 1648hrs UT at 55 degrees alt.
Saturn 1752hrs UT at 68 degrees alt.

Thanks, John.

Wow these are very impressive pictures John, like the others have said I dont think I've seen anything as detailed this year on these two planets and I think the ringing is a very small price to pay for the amount of surface detail coming through on mars, its a shame that wasn't any clouds about as it seems many have caught them recently and this would have been dramatic on yours I should think.

As for Saturn, there just are not enough superlatives to describe your picture I love it!

Your scope loves saturn John, some real storm detail visable. Encke is easily seen Thats something that shows how good this really is.

Saturn is something my 245 mm primary cant really cope with particulaly well, Wont be getting anything like this anytime soon

The Mars shot also showing nice resolution. I havent tried since it was 10 Arcsecs. Snow here John.

Welcome back to better conditions for you. Its good to see you doing what only the right conditions will allow. But when it does wow.

Thanks everyone, found a better Mars for detail. When Saturn came into view I felt so pleased to see that still image after a couple of wobbly hours with Mars.

Mars was taken at F55 so Saturn would not fit in at this fl but gave it a quick go as a mosaic before stepping down to F35, at F55 Saturn is a bit dark.

Regards, John.

Superb images, John. Enckes division and Crepe ring all easily discernable. Real "text-book image". Great detail on Mars also. Wonderful to look at. No snow here just plenty of cloud and drizzle. Hope to get a look soon.
