Default First solar images with ED80 - 3rd February 2012, 06:58 PM

As I mentioned in the DIY Astronomy forum, I made a solar filter using Baader film this afternoon and later went out to my obsy and set up my 1100D on the ED80 with solar filter and took some images of the sun using the Canon EOS Utilities software. I also took some with the SW ED x2 Barlow in the light path.

Here are a couple of solar images from this afternoon. Each shown full frame but scaled and at full resolution and cropped to include a couple of sunspots. The first with camera directly on focuser and the other with extension tube and 2x Barlow. The first without any image processing and the other with curves altered to bring out the detail better. No sharpening used.

Great start!
Tighten up the focus, and they'll be even better...

Very good Gina. You will find the ED80 excellent for the sun. A green filter helps too.
