Pictures taken during some LX/mono mods -
16th September 2010, 05:00 PM
Been modifying some cameras to long exposure and mono chip
for a few mates this last few days.
Decided to take some "in progress" pictures which might be of use
to any body contemplating their first webcam mod.
Plenty of information on this site but you can't have too many pictures
Philips SPC900NC uncovered
Won't accept responsibility for errors, or damage you may do to
your equipment and I don't want to do any more modding....
No really
Hope these are of some help...
Regards
Philip

Here's shots of both sides compared to a 20p coin....
Good quality small iron bit helps a lot...I use a 1.5mm on some joints
and only ever use 0.6mm solder not the standard stuff which is too thick
and can flow across pins.

Excellent pictures, maybe I should try doing the long exposure mod on my mono SP900NC
Should be moved/stickied as a tutorial.
Canon EOS 60D and a Sky-Watcher Skyliner 150P Dob.

Cheers guys, pleased the pictures may be useful
Peter
Re that wide angle lens you retro fitted to the webcam..
Another method is to move the black plastic lens holder block away from the circuit board a few mm using insulated washers
and longer screws..
Think you could get enough to allow the wide lens to screw in giving you better focus control

Cheers Phil,
It's worked out quite well as the thread has formed in the "glue" but if i do another i will go with your suggestion... it would need to move forwards about 3-4mm to get a few threads engaged...
Where are you getting the 4066's from? RS/Franell have them so i can add a few to our next order bitbox have them as well...

All the bits for these from Bitbox Peter...
That guy is a star... never had to wait..
Only slight gotcha though is that his miniature SPDT switches are bigger than the Maplin miniature ones so a tight fit in the camera case..
Sub miniature would be better I reckon....

Thanks Philip, there are other pictures on the web but none are as clear as these. I think even I can manage to follow them now!
Very helpful

This is an order sheet to Bitsbox..
Note the quantities are for two mods so halve it for one...
The switch is a tad big so you might do better getting a smaller one from say Maplin if you're doing the mod in the original case.
This one SPST
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=2340
Maplin do the other bits too if you prefer
