Imaging Day - North -
22nd March 2010, 08:11 AM
OK, if we were to run one in the North of England, where would be good?
I think it would have to be North of Manchester to be honest, but I guess it depends on how far people would travel..
So, suggestions please

I am new to all this, I am trying to get my head round "Imaging" so I am interested. Just need a location with minimum light pollution. Oh and some decent weather of course.

I have started a Midlands thread, so "North" could be a bit further "up"

North, from Leeds upwards
Midlands, from Leeds down to Oxford
South, from Oxford downwards
North, good location would be near Settle....situated along the Pennines, good for observing, far from any large cities, good transport routes with the A65, M6 and A1(M) close-by (kinda)
Or, up near Keilder, or in the NY Moors, light pollution isn't bad there and very similar to the Brecon Beacons for seeing.

I would vote for Manchester. There seems to be quite a number of SGLers in the area. Have it at Jodrell Bank!

I presume the imaging day is a tutorial session about imaging and image processing held during the day. I guess we don't need to go to a location with good seeing and low light pollution.

darlington is easy to get to from scotland, and from the likes of south yorkshire

There is an Imaging course at UMIST, at the Godlee Observatory in June. And is co-organised by Manchester AS and N.W.G.A.S.
Check the NWGAS web site for more information, or e-mail the secretary for details. I think that they are booked up, but you never know.

I think if we are to look at North of the M62 we should look at somewhere such as Edinburgh, easily reachable from North South and West of the region, and a nice place to visit as well.

Edinburgh would be ok, but how about Kielder observatory ? I'm sure Gary and the team would be pleased to host an imaging day.
SW300p Flextube with Argo Navis and EQ Platform.
Helios 120, Startravel 70 CG5GT dual mounting bar.
Canon 300d Starlight Xpress MX7.
Far too many EP's and accessories.

we should have a 'pin the tail on the donkey' type selection process albeit more like 'pin the location on the map'. just blindfold whoever's in charge then get them to pin a map for the location....simples!
