Default Picture of the Week 28th June 2009 - 28th June 2009, 05:08 PM

Despite the less than favourable weather conditions and short nights there has still been a reasonable number of images posted this week. There has been a lot of promising first lights with people either trying out new kit or observatories or both. This is probably the best time of year to iron out all the bugs ready for the darker nights.

Now that we are past the longest day I’m looking forward to what the new season brings and I’m sure many of you are itching to use your new kit.

This week we have seen some very nice thin crescent Moon images from both Darren (Daz) and Brendan (Brendant) and Pete (PyschoBilly). I especially like Pete’s Moonset animation and montage image.

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-lunar-solar/82301-quick-dirty-moonset-anim.html

Pete has also managed to capture a beautiful sunset with crepuscular rays

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-lunar-solar/82238-couple-sunset-ray-shots.html

After the rush of NLC images last week the widefield section has been a bit quieter. The highlights from this section are Paulo’s astrometry images which show how amateur imagers can contribute to science. I especially like the inverse video image of Comet C/2005 L3 McNaught and NGC5005.

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-widefield-special-events-comets/82441-little-bit-astrometry.html

There are also some great Milkyway shots from Steve (SteveL) and Mark (Markcol).

Paulo (Paulobao) has been very busy in between doing his Astrometry and Photometry. He has produced a beautifully detailed narrowband image of IC5070 in the Hubble palette.

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-deep-sky/82433-ic5070-mapped-color.html

Alan (Moocher) has framed the Pelican perfectly with fantastic detail and contrast.

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-deep-sky/82418-pelican-another-try-better-framing.html

Olly (ollypenrice) has produce a truly stunning Veil Complex wide field which was very much in the running for POW. This is a very deep image with beautiful colour and detail, 13 hours very well spent.

http://stargazerslounge.com/imaging-deep-sky/82329-veil-13-hours-fsq.html

This week the Eagle has definitely landed with several images catching this low lying target. Both Steve (SteveL) and Dennis (Roundycat) have produced a couple of cracking images.

Although I’m not a great fan of the Hubble palette I have been blown away by the recent post from Greekastronomy. The close up of M16 the Eagle nebula is truly awesome, the depth and detail is astounding for an amateur set up

Congratulations on POTW Anthony (Greekastronomy)

Regards

Kevin

I have to say that I am also not usually a fan og the hubble palette but this was an amazing image. The 'Pillars of creation' really stand out in that image, a worthy winner indeed!!

Well done Kevin on completing your first POW judging and what an excellent choice - an amazingly vivid image, well done Greekastronomy.

Stunning!!!
I'm not the biggest fan of the Hubble palete either, but this is an absolute corker of an image.
Well done, and well done Kevin for a great write up.

Cheers

Great Intro. for POTW Kevin, and what a selection for the winning Image. Narrowband imaging is here to stay, and the different palettes give diverse results. It looks very good to me.
Congratulations to Greekastronomy on SGL POTW award.
Ron.

Well, as Tony Blair might have said: Resolution, Resolution, Resolution...
And Greekastronomy's image has it in razor blades. Very very fine imaging and scarcely credible that it's an amateur's work.
