energy / matter is never lost its always balanced, out of reach maybe but still in existance, (it is an interesting thought that if you can never interact with something is it lost i guess its one point of view) nothing can leave the universe unless matter / energy can skip between parallel universes, which is an interesting concept in itself and i think i have heard something about that somewhere as some sort of quantum state / property, cant recall which, but it was theoretical at best i think.

     Thanks Earl for your input. My initial entry could not possibly cover a lot of material. As far as matter being lost we are led to believe that during inflation the speed of light was exceeded thereby allowing matter/energy to be expelled, where to, who knows but possible to another universe collecting "stuff" from other universes like our own. What the escape velocity would be at that early period is, I believe unknown.

     The expansion of the universe as well may have another explanation such as centrifugal force. Unseen and untraceable. For that to happen the entire universe would have to rotate like everything else in the cosmos . This rotation could not be detected for obvious reasons. It would certainly have to be enough to overcome the attraction that holds everything together. With centrifugal force, the outer edge spins faster which is consistent with observations that the farther away the object is the greater the red shift.

     I am way over my head here but I really enjoy putting forth my ideas and getting feedback.

But how could the matter/energy be "missing" in a sense since they are seeing effects of supposed dark matter on galaxies and objects?

Could all the pressure in the universe have caused the universe to expand faster than the speed of light? It is an interesting thought though of pressure causing something such as the universe to expand. Yes, like fruit or vegetables going off and gases released causing the packaging to expand... I like it. Whether it is true or not, another matter :D
